Fulton County

In the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains lies beautiful Fulton County. The Chattahoochee River provides drinking water for most of the county – no small fete for a population of over 915,000. Fulton County is the most populous county in Georgia with Atlanta being its county seat.

Encompassing 529 square miles, Fulton County was formed from Dekalb County in 1853 and, after consolidating Milton and Campbell counties, it ended up with a strange, elongated shape. Fulton County was named for Robert Fulton, the inventor of the first commercially successful steamboat.
